Child Dedication

The scriptures teach us that “children are a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward” (Psalm 127:3).  And as parents, we are to “bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4).

The term dedication means to set aside or to commit for the service of the Lord.  And when we speak of dedicating our children to the Lord, we are really speaking of dedicating ourselves, as parents, to raising our children in a way that honors God, and to model for them what it looks like to walk in the ways of the Lord, with the goal of leading them to Christ, and raising them to walk in God’s ways.  Dedicating your child is not your child's salvation, but rather a public profession of the parents to make every attempt and give every opportunity to lead their child to Christ and raise them in His ways.  “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)

"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.” (Deuteronomy 6:4-7) [Emphasis added]
